ART and LIFE is my PASSION!

I am captivated with the forces of life and creation intertwined with space and time.  All of us are connected in a mysterious life, by chance and choice.  I know that the moment  you are reading this is not chance, but a selected appointment in time and place for you.
My work is BOLD, colorful, abstract and expressive.  I paint, draw and I am also a storyteller through my unique sculpture and painting assemblages.  I have always loved words and puzzles but as my work has evolved the most important aspect that I want to convey is the story of humanity laid bare.  These assemblages are like a snapshot in time.  The stories they tell are funny, poignant, sad, heartbreaking or mysterious.
What defines one person’s life from another?  What can bond or connect us?  It is their journey, their story and in their story we can help find meaning out of our life journey and our story.  Ultimately, I am privileged to be a vessel to assist in telling stories that connects hearts and lives.
Some artists take pictures with cameras and then paint what they see. An astute observer, I see people as I live in my everyday world and see things below the surface.  I look in their eyes and a story comes to my heart and spirit.  There are spoken and unspoken connections, leaving an imprint of a story so powerful it must be told. As a writer pours words on a paper, I assemble the story through paint, found objects and purposeful and intricately made constructions.
Sometimes the story is told before the person is met.  I find an object, a photo, a piece I know is important.  I collect them until the right moment and then begin to assemble the piece. There is something spiritual that happens as I tell a story with intentional arrangement, purposeful selection and placement of every piece, word, and each color in the assemblage painting or assemblage sculpture.
The chords of emotions of the heart run in a deep river.  Sometimes that river has joy, laughter, pain, sorrow, heartbreak and healing.  But the mirror of my art connects to that river reflecting what I’ve seen.
Scientists who study quantum physics and string theory believe we are all connected.  I tend to agree and so flowing with this mystery, my work culminates in a new creation determined not only by chance but by my choices.  During and after the process these are some questions I ask of myself.  Who will it touch?  How long will it be here or there?  Whose eyes will see it?  Whose hands will touch it?  What questions will it evoke?  What do they say, first to me and then to you?
Like a birth - a seed, a thought, a touch, lights flashing through a window, colors, shadows, smells and sounds, a kaleidoscope fine turned to the frequency of artistic language. I am an interpreter. I translate a symbolic language.
What does this encompass and why? It encompasses layers of time and space.  Sometimes the space is large as in my paintings. Sometimes the space is smaller as in some of my assemblages and drawings.  But always my work is multi-textured and layered.  Individually the pieces had a history but now collectively they have new possibilities, a new future.  Isn’t this how we all can be?
If you look it is possible for you to not just see with your eyes the outer layers of meaning but also the inner realities through the intricate constructions and intentional arrangements.  There is a wealth of interpretations as you invest some time to journey with this piece and discover it speaking to your spirit.

ABSTRACT paintings
I LOVE Color, and begin my paintings with a strong geometric base. I then combine softer color gradations and overlay with mixed elements.  Many times I use the paint thinned and almost like watercolors.  I control the flows and patterns created, utilizing the movement of the canvas to combine the wet colors creating great depth of colors. I may also use ink, pastels and markers.
Other times my paintings are color and text: to tell our stories. And so I see flowing from myself; this gentle, beautiful work and then also a different kind of beauty to me.  It is a challenge to myself not to be complacent, apathetic or hopeless about all the pain and brutality that we inflict on one another.  Challenged to risk the status quo, not to stay when I should go, not to be silent when I need to speak.  Not to be indifferent to the fact that life is fleeting and transient.

This is a little about my artistic journey.
One of my greatest mentors was a wonderful artist who was also a family friend. She was out of the box, creative, full of live and energy and funky as all get out. I was invited to live with their family because her daughter and I were good friends. In addition, my parents agreed because as one of 9 children our household was full of teenagers at that time.  She drove a great big green 40's or 50's Cadillac and had her artist's group meet at her home on Thursday nights.  I sat on a window seat, watching and listening as they created and encouraged each other in the process of artistic endeavors. They loved art and I grew in my love, exposure and knowledge of art as I was there for several years.
I created in pastels and watercolors but unable to reach the level of realistic expertise, I put my materials away for a period of time. Later in my 20's I began to paint with oils and increased the sizes of my canvases. But when I painted my first large abstract painting, I was hooked.  This was the way that I could best express myself and that is still one of my deepest passions in the creative flow.
I worked in the interior design field for many years and was greatly influenced by the exposure to form, line and beauty. Life events helped formed the steps of my life as a gift of handmade jewelry sent to a close relative in New York was met with a request for more.  I have created very unusual sculptural assemblages to be worn as jewelry. My work was sold at stores and galleries in the country including Nordstrom and others. This became the nucleus of my current assemblage and sculptural artwork.

My current pieces are created with elements of found objects, wire, stone, metal, vintage parts, plastic and anything else that sparks my spirit.

Thanks for letting me share with you.
